Background of the Study

Supplier credit, a financial arrangement where suppliers allow buyers to defer payment for goods or services, plays a significant role in procurement efficiency. By enabling companies to manage cash flow, supplier credit allows for smoother procurement processes, helping organizations meet their production and operational needs without immediate financial outlays. In manufacturing sectors, where procurement involves significant capital expenditures, supplier credit becomes an important tool for enhancing efficiency in sourcing raw materials and maintaining production schedules.

Nigerian Breweries, one of the leading beverage manufacturers in Nigeria, relies heavily on a steady supply of raw materials such as malt, sugar, and packaging materials to maintain its production lines. The company operates in Borno State, where procurement logistics can be disrupted due to local infrastructure issues, security concerns, and limited access to markets. By using supplier credit effectively, Nigerian Breweries aims to ensure that its procurement processes remain efficient despite external challenges. This study will investigate the role of supplier credit in enhancing procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries in Borno State.

Statement of the Problem

In the context of Nigerian Breweries, the procurement process faces various challenges, including delays, cost fluctuations, and disruptions in the supply chain. Supplier credit is often used as a tool to mitigate some of these challenges, but its actual impact on procurement efficiency remains understudied. The ability of Nigerian Breweries to leverage supplier credit effectively in Borno State could significantly influence procurement performance. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of supplier credit on procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries, focusing on the specific challenges faced in Borno State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the use of supplier credit in the procurement process at Nigerian Breweries.

  2. To evaluate the impact of supplier credit on procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries in Borno State.

  3. To identify the challenges associated with using supplier credit in procurement at Nigerian Breweries.

Research Questions

  1. How is supplier credit utilized in the procurement process at Nigerian Breweries in Borno State?

  2. What is the impact of supplier credit on procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries?

  3. What challenges does Nigerian Breweries face in using supplier credit for procurement in Borno State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Supplier credit positively impacts procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries in Borno State.

  2. The effective use of supplier credit improves procurement performance and reduces procurement costs at Nigerian Breweries.

  3. Challenges in using supplier credit negatively affect procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on assessing the role of supplier credit in procurement efficiency at Nigerian Breweries in Borno State. Data will be gathered from procurement officers, suppliers, and financial records. Limitations include access to detailed financial data and the impact of external factors that may influence procurement efficiency beyond supplier credit.
